CHILDREN IN WORSHIP

• We welcome children in worship with their parents and recognize that most of our families prefer to keep their children with them. We offer a Children’s Message at all Sunday services and Quiet Bags (intended for ages 3-6) are available on the rack near the stairs at the rear of the sanctuary.

• We understand that there are times when you and your child may need to step out for a few minutes. A small Children’s Corner is available at the bottom of the stairs in the Social Room on Sunday mornings during the worship service. There is a carpet area for play, including bean bags, toys and a small table. One of our ushers or any congregational member can show you where this is. The sound system speakers in the Social Room will enable you to still hear and follow the service upstairs while you and your toddler get a needed break.

Main Parking Lot is located behind our building, off N. Broad Street, and is accessible through the alleyway.

Visitor parking spaces are clearly marked for the first four (4) diagonal spaces just beyond the handicap parking. They are located at the right-hand side of the alley into our main parking area.  

Handicap parking spaces are designated in the first spaces to the right as you enter the area from N. Broad Street (next to the building).  

Additional handicap parking is marked on Mulberry Street at the front of the church building and a ramp is available into the sanctuary level.

The parking lot entrance door is wheel chair accessible and an elevator, located at the far end of the Social Room near the handicapped restroom, is available to access the sanctuary.  

Private Parking Lot - Please do not use the private parking lot on the corner of N. Broad & Mulberry Streets as that belongs to the Presbyterian Church.

Faith Formation Classes are available, September – May,  for both children and youth on Sunday mornings, at 9:15 a.m. before our worship service; more here.  Our youth participate in activities, service, confirmation classes and fellowship events along with youth from other Lancaster ELCA congregations; more here.

Adults participate in a variety of separate activities for fellowship, faith nurturing, and service including Secret Sisters, Diners-on-a-Budget, Clothing Ministry, and Food Pantry support. For more visit Faith Formation or Fellowship or Care & Outreach.

Yes. St. Peter's has a rich tradition of following God's call to reach out to others.  From assisting families in need with clothing, emergency shelter meals, local food pantry, and opening our doors to local groups for meetings and concerts, providing Christmas gifts for needy children, collecting supplies for area Lutheran veterans and emergency shelters and food pantries, Operation Christmas Child boxes, and more. The people of St. Peter’s have made volunteering a part of living their faith.

As an historical building, St. Peter’s is not fully accessible.  However, we do have the following:

Wheelchair Accessible Elevator – Connects the Narthex or sanctuary entrance area with the lower level – Social Room, Family Restroom, and Parking Lot Entrance.

Wheelchair Ramp – Access from the sidewalk on Mulberry Street.

Wheelchair Accessible Restroom – Located on the lower level in the Ladies Room.

Marked Handicapped Parking Spaces – On the right of the alley (next to the building) in the parking lot at the rear of the building (off N. Broad Street) and there are a few marked parking spaces in the front of the church on East Mulberry Street.

As a congregation, St. Peter’s strives to connect all our ministries and activities to our shared mission.

As we are called to move forward, let us gather, share, nurture and care for the sake of God’s world.

Our worship services follow a traditional format and we enjoy the symbolism and circumstance in the ritual and practice of traditional, liturgical worship.  We use various “settings” from the ELW – Evangelical Lutheran Worship.   We print all service parts in a bulletin so even guests can easily follow the service.  Music is important as we offer our worship and praise.  We are blessed by the gifts and talents of many of our musical members -  from pipe organ to keyboard, vocal choir to handbell choir to praise band, from brass to percussion. Our Sunday morning service is a little over an hour long.  Saturday Evening is a little under 45 minutes.

Yes.  We share Holy Communion at all Saturday and Sunday worship services.  All who are baptized and believe in the real presence of Christ in our Sacrament for the forgiveness of sins are welcome to commune.

Everyone is welcome to worship at St. Peter's. We have many members who have come from different denominations and backgrounds.  While we adhere to the principles and beliefs of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA), we are Christians first.

At any service you will see both suits and jeans, ties and T shirts, dresses and capris, dressy and casual. It is our belief that God cares more about your heart than what you are wearing, and we feel the same way.
