Community Need

FOOD PANTRY: St. Peter's works in concert with Lutheran Social Services to provide needy families in the Lancaster area with food through the LSS Choice Food Pantry on East Main Street. Members support the pantry with their donations and their time. Needy families are referred through the local Information & Referral Agency (211) and, with a volunteer, are able to choose a three-day supply of food in the pantry.

Pantry items can be given at any time – simply place them in the grocery carts located in the Narthex or the Assembly Room.  September is designated as Food Pantry Month and a time of concentrated collections.  Volunteers of the church serve on our designated dates to help with the distribution of food.  Other "regular" volunteers serve more frequently as they are able.  Contact the church office or find the Leadership Directory in the Handbook or Members Only section of this web site to learn more.

Emergency Shelter Meals: St. Peter’s members provide an evening meal to residents of the Lutheran Social Services Emergency Homeless Shelter regularly on the third Thursday of each month.  Other open dates are also often covered by our members.  For each meal, single members/families or multiple members together provide the meal for 20 - 30 individuals.  Often additional "breakfast" items like cereal, bread, and milk are also offered.

See the “Leadership Directory” at the front of the church handbook or find the contact listing in the Members Only section of this web site to learn more or to offer your help.

The “We Care” Clothing CornerAs an additional ministry to families in special need, the St. Peter's "We Care" Clothing Corner is open first and third Thursdays from 12:30 – 3 p.m.  The We Care Clothing Corner began many, many years ago and continues today to provide clean, new or slightly used clothing and shoes for men, women, and children as well as curtains, bedding and towels. Recently, they have also been able to provide special items for Back to School as well as special holiday clothing and gift items.

Volunteers can always be used to sort donated clothing and "mind the store" during distribution hours. Your donations of clean, usable clothing may be dropped off at the church when you are here or during office hours.  Curtains, bedding, and towels are also frequently asked for items.
