Archives

This ministry catalogs and maintains the historical records and memorabilia of St. Peter’s, and provides historical publications as needed.

St Peter's Church has a long history and tradition in Lancaster and celebrated its bicentennial in 2005 as the oldest Lutheran congregation that continues in worship and service today.

Throughout the years, many interesting and wonderful items of this long history have been preserved and held in the church archives -- a full scale model of the current church building, a German Bible dated 1693, furnishings and worship items that are over a century old, and much, much more.  (For a brief history of our congregation, check out the "Our History" page located under "About Us" in the menu tabs above.)

The Archives Ministry Team is in charge of maintaining records and items so that an accurate picture of our long tradition -- who we have been - is available to those who are interested.  This team is the resource for historical publications, displays of interesting items, and any preparing or sharing of stories with small groups of youth and adult members and the general public when the building is open for events such as the Art Walk and the Youth Spaghetti Supper.

If you are interested in helping to:

  • categorize, catalog, and maintain items and recordsrsz 1hpim02421
  • prepare displays of items that could rotate through the year or for various special events and activities
  • offer custom woodworking or other skilled craft abilities as needs occur
  • study over items and materials so that you can write and/or present information for publications or small group tours (may work alone or with a small team)
  • present information to our own members in small groups or the general public during open church events and activities

Or if you would like to request a presentation, tour, or to see a particular item from the archives, please be in contact with the church office at (740) 653-1950.
