Lancaster Lutherans Pray Together

Wednesdays, Dec 6, 13 & 20 @ 7:00 pm

Lutheran Church of Our Savior (1920 W. Fair Ave. Lancaster)

This year's theme is "Displaced Persons" and was developed by the "Country Church" subgroup of Lancaster LutheransTogether (or LLT).  Beginning with the Matthew 25 Gospel text of Christ the King Sunday, we will then look at St. Nicholas (Dec. 6), St. Lucy (Dec. 13) and Katerina VonBora Luther (Dec. 20) and allow these people, their lives, and the witness of scripture to enable us to look at the least of these in our midst.

Join us also for Prayer Service for Lancaster Lutherans Together (approx. 20 minutes) at 6:30 p.m.

Please note: Access to Lutheran Church of Our Savior is off Grove Avenue, one block south of West Fair Avenue. Take Brannon Drive (just past the railroad tracks across from the Dollar General) or Shasta Drive off of Fair Ave to Grove Avenue.

Faith Commitment Weekend

December 16 & 17, 2017

Watch your MAILBOXES for a special letter with your Faith Commitment Card for 2018.

This Faith Commitment Card will ask for your offering of God’s gifts of Treasure, cheerful-giverTime, and Talent to the ministry and mission of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church (see sample below). This is one small act of living our faith out loud that leads to a life of faithful acts of giving and caring and sharing all that God has placed in our care.
Pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance in making your Faith Commitment to the ministry and mission of St. Peter’s Lutheran.
Listen for the Holy Spirit’s guidance in making your Faith Commitment to the ministry and mission of St. Peter’s Lutheran.
Prayerfully complete your Faith Commitment Card and bring it to worship with your on Saturday, December 16 or Sunday, December 17. We will have a special moment in the service where you will be asked to present your Commitment at the Altar.
Once again, this year Faith Commitment Cards will be mailed so that everyone has an opportunity to respond. The Faith Commitment Cards include opportunity to respond with not only financial giving (treasure) but also time and talent. The Faith Commitment you make on these cards will be used in the planning of God’s work in this faith community and with our ELCA partners in ministry. It is important that you provide as much of the information as possible on the card.
Please note that your commitment is a matter of faith and thanksgiving between you and our Lord; therefore, you are asked not to sign your name on your card.
Prayerfully consider your commitment and possibly stepping up your level of financial and time and talent offering as an outward sign of God’s faithfulness in each of us. However, the Holy Spirit guides you in your commitment, it will be your personal commitment and you are asked to remain consistent in your giving throughout the year to help in the planning and the doing of God’s Work.
*If you are unable to attend worship on December 16 or 17 please complete your card and mail it to the church or drop it off during our office hours prior to December 16.
**Additional Faith Commitment Cards will also be available in the back of the Sanctuary during our Commitment weekend.

Please return your card during our worship service

on Saturday, Dec 16 or Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017

Dartball Time!!

It’s time again to organize our team(s) for this Christian league in Fairfield DartballCounty. Games begin in October and are played on Monday evenings at 7:00 p.m. at churches around Fairfield County. Returning players and interested newcomers are encouraged to contact David Gibbs. This is a great activity for youth and adults – and has been a fun father-son opportunity as well.

The former Ladies STUCK Evening Study group has decided to continueLadies Group to meet and to share in discussion around several books – and YOU are invited to join them. Their next book, "It's Not Fair - Learning to Love the Life You Didn't Choose," is a "fun, witty but very precise talk about the hardships we all face in life" along with "how big God is and how little we often understand Him." The group meets on Thursdays and invites other women to join them. Please contact the church office if you would like to be part of this upcoming time of study, discussion, and friendship.

Catechism News

Did you know ALL Catechism students need to fill-out "Sermon Note" forms each Sunday they attend worship?

Secret Sisters

Be A Secret Sister!

Each year, women of St. Peter's sign up and participate in this fun way to touch a sister in Christ with a monthly remembrance--an inspirational item or card or other small token of friendship.  Participants complete a form with information about likes, hobbies, collections and other information to help in choosing these small remembrances.  Matches are made by early January and then the fun begins.  An exchange box is available in the kitchen to "secretly" drop off a gift--AND to find one left for YOU!!  There's even a notebook to write a note of thanks.  Debbie and Joni would love to have more women particpate!  If you are interested or want more information, contact Debbie or Joni as soon as possible and  pick up a participant form.  Please have ALL forms returned by the end of December so that matches can be drawn in early January.

Shelter MealsEmergency Shelter Meals

Each month, St Peter's provides meals for the Lutheran Social Services Emergency Shelter – Faith Mission.

Our hope is to have at least two people to share the responsibilities for each of our chosen dates to serve 24 people. Currently, the shelter is running with nearly half the dates each month not covered.

Meals do not need to be elaborate, only nourishing and filling. Some are finding this a great way to gather with family members or friends and share in service as they plan and prepare a meal. Consider your calendar and when you might have time in the coming months. If you have an opening outside the dates listed in the bulletin, contact Faith Mission or our coordinators to find out if you can cover a needed opening.

Please help us to share the need for this ministry of caring. If you would like more information, contact any of St Peter's coordinators - Cathy Goodman, Jeanne Carney, Chris & Holly Griffin – or the church office (740.653.1950).

There is definitely a hint of fall in the air! Crisp mornings and bright blue skies herald in the changing season. The racks at We Care are also undergoing a transformation. Shorts and sleeveless tops are being replaced with heavier pants and sweaters.

During the past two Thursdays the Corner was open, we saw 59 families come through our doors. A total of 190 lives were possibly impacted by this outreach. Over 1,148 items of clothing were distributed including, 52 items for Halloween, 41 additional school items, and several items for Lancaster's Homecoming dance. Over 137 volunteer hours were given to this ministry during the past four weeks.

Speaking of volunteers, We Care has two very hard workers that the clients don't see a lot of. They work tirelessly in our sorting room. When they are not sorting and hanging donations, you might find them "wrangling" hangers and accepting donations through our "drive-up" window! They also make sure our racks are stocked as they become depleted.  It takes everyone working together to make this outreach ministry possible.

Many, many thanks to the strong and able-bodied men that showed up after services Oct. 8th to help We Care. Your strong arms were appreciated more than you know! Keep working on that upper body strength because you will be called on to help again!

P.S. Thanks to the wives who either sent your husbands down to work or you were delayed in leaving church. You are appreciated, too!

Blessings, We Care Committee

altar flowers

Please check the Altar Calendar to see if you have signed up to provide the flowers for our altar in November.   It is highly recommended that the flowers be ordered by the Tuesday prior to the Sunday for which you signed up. The church office will need to know by the Tuesday prior to your designated Sunday the dedication you wish printed in the bulletin along with what you plan to do with the flowers, i.e., will you be taking the flowers yourself or donating them to the home bound.

You may order the flowers from the florist of your choice. However, they must be delivered to the church by 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. We highly recommend Floral Originals (740-654-3333) as they have been doing the majority of our flowers for some time now and have an understanding with St. Peter's regarding delivery and are familiar with what works with our altar.

If you have any questions, please contact the church office.

Don't forget to bring in your loose change to be used to purchase food for the LSS Emergency Shelter for the multiple dates that are not covered by outside providers.
