Our Church Leadership

Our Congregational Council thrives because of the energy and style of the people whoChurch-Council are a part of our leadership.  They meet monthly to oversee the vision and direction of our congregation’s ministry, and to make overall policy decisions.  The Council functions as a long-range planning group, working to discern God’s will for our congregation’s life and ministry one year, five years, and ten years from the present.  Council engages in an annual planning retreat, supplemented by mini-retreats, as needed.

A Message from your Council President

Taken from the August 2017 St. Peter's Chronicle

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us the Congregational meeting on Sunday, July 9 - it was gratifying to address so many of our members about the next steps in St. Peter's future! As a partial recap, the first step in our meeting was amending our constitution, approving mandatory sections required for us to make certain we remain compliant with the ELCA. Next for our constitution will be presentation of a group of "voluntary" sections to update how St. Peter's operates on a more day-to-day basis. My sincere thanks to Bob Reynolds and Dave Gibbs for spearheading this effort; they are excited about the progress they have made to-date, their review of these provisions with various staff and volunteer congregation members - and this opportunity to bring our governing document firmly into the 21st Century.

As everyone has noticed by now, our steeple repair & renovation project is complete and the scaffolding and fence are down - Praise Be To God! Congratulations to our Building and Maintenance chair Brian Hintz for all of his hard work in tracking the project from beginning to end; well done Brian! I urge everyone to plan to join us for a combined Steeple Dedication and Patio Fellowship following worship on August 13.

Finally, as everyone should be aware, St. Peter's is beginning the necessary steps to move forward with a plan of shared ministries and shared staffing with various of our local ELCA counterpart congregations.  While Assistant to the Bishop Pastor Jeff Wick joined our church council for our July meeting to begin discussing exactly what thenext moves in this process will look like, and while our most recent Lancaster Lutherans Together meeting on July 24 featured discussion, and we are beginning to see this process take shape, please know the process is certainly not in it's final form yet.  I ask for your continued patience, as well as attention to further information and details as we know and share them.  Your Council also welcomes your conitnuing input and feedback as we move forward.  We are looking for the best ways of keeping St. Peter's (the church with the small c) strong, relevant and welcoming - while serving as ever-faithful disciples in "God's Church (yes, the one with the capital C!) in our community.

Together in Christ,

Jon Hale

Council President
